Cyprian (Cipriano) de, frankoflämischer Komponist, * Mecheln oder Machelen (Brabant) 1515 oder 1516, ✝ Parma September 1565; war Schüler von A. Willaert in Venedig, 1547-58 Hofkapellmeister in Ferrara, 1561 und ab 1564 in Parma, 1563-64 als Nachfolger Willaerts Kapellmeister an San Marco in Venedig. Er schrieb Messen, Motetten, Vesper- und Passionsmusiken. V. a. aber seine 125 Madrigale sind durch ihre ausdrucksvolle Textdeklamation, kontrastreiche Rhythmik, individuelle Stimmbehandlung und neue Harmonik einschließlich kühner chromatischer Wendungen von besonderer Bedeutung für diese Gattung.
